Summer Fast Track

The first night of fast track training began, appropriately, on the track. I felt nervous about it all day but should’ve known it would all be OK. 

We warmed up by jogging to the track, then our coach explained the workout. We went at our own pace 10 laps around with rests in between. The goal was to run even pace throughout, or at least the same pace for both the first and last laps. 

Naturally, I started out too fast and had to taper myself. The temperatures felt great despite the 90-degree thermometer reading and I was feeling confident. By lap 3, I had found a good pace that I maintained the rest of the time until speeding up a bit for laps 9 and 10. 

Overall, I feel great about tonight as a good start to the season. Before we headed out, our coach reminded us, “You’ve all already won just by being here tonight.”
